Well, March
will be a full month for TBA Sisterhood. On
Sunday, March 14 we will be co-hosting the
annual Women's Seder along with Congregation
Beth Shalom Sisterhood and Kochava Hadassah.
This is a wonderful event. If you have never
attended please join us. You'll be in for a
treat.
On Friday, March 19 we
will have our Sisterhood Shabbat. Along with the installation of new
officers, we will be presenting our first ever "Sisterhood Woman of the
Year Award". Please join us for what will be a delicious evening as
refreshments will be provided by the women of the sisterhood.
The "Spring Tea"
originally scheduled for May 2nd
has been rescheduled to Sunday, April
25.
After reading an
article in the Daily News by Dennis McCarthy, Doreen Hawbecker
spearheaded an effort to assist a Boy Scout with his Eagle Scout
project. This involved making gel neck coolers to send to the troops in
Iraq. Doreen cut 118 strips of muslin and had temple members write
messages on them. They were delivered to the Boy Scout who finished them
by stitching them together with a gel pack inside. The soldiers will
immerse the cool packs in water and then put them around their necks to
help cool themselves.
We are looking forward
to another great year as several new Board members are seated. For
further information please contact:

Amazing!
On Sunday, February
21st a group of women got together to begin studying "The Torah: A
Women's Commentary." What an amazing experience it was! This book is
published by the Women of Reform Judaism.
When Doreen Hawbecker
returned from the national convention of Women of Reform Judaism this
past November she was so excited about this book that she volunteered to
facilitate the sessions. She and Judith Stolnitz have been working
together to bring this about. Although the initial plan was to start
with the reading of Genesis they soon discovered that reading the
introduction was an integral part of the process. This, in itself, is
proving to be fascinating. This group will meet monthly and it is not
necessary to belong to Sisterhood to attend. For further information
please contact Doreen via
sisterhood@templebethami.org.

Sisterhood Lilith Salon
Are you interested in
stimulating discussion about contemporary issues for Jewish women? Then
participation in the Lilith Salon Series is for YOU! Lilith Magazine is
published quarterly by the WRJ (Women of Reform Judaism). Don't
subscribe? We can fix that by either getting you the information to
subscribe OR providing a copy of the articles we plan on discussing
before the event.
We meet four times a
year to discuss the articles of our choice from the magazine. The
get-togethers (salons) are held in member's homes in the evening. The
facilitator receives discussion questions and sometimes additional
suggested readings for each issue to stimulate conversation. One article
in a previous issue was so meaningful to me personally that after being
a member of TBA for 15+ years and after much soul searching and study, I
finally felt comfortable converting to Judaism.
The newest issue
entitled 'Our Bodies... It's complicated', which we will be discussing
in March, has many interesting articles. 'A Zionist in Spite of Herself'
is an interview with Judith Shotten who immigrated to Israel from
Winnipeg in 1949 and has an amazing life story. Two articles including
'Three Sisters' and 'Four Weddings and a Funeral', deal with breast
cancer and BRCA-1 gene mutation, which I think will provide for a
wonderful discussion, especially after the recent panel discussion
sponsored by our own TBA Relay for Life Team.
Look for information on
our next meeting sometime in March. Please join us for a glass of wine
or cup of coffee and some fellowship as we discuss interesting issues
confronting Jewish women. Please contact Karen Kaplan at:
w2wkaren@hotmail.com for more information.
